Iran’s National Sports Spatial Planning Project was officially unveiled in a ceremony attended by First Vice President Dr. Mohammad Reza Aref, Minister of Sports and Youth Dr. Ahmad Donyamali, and President of the National Olympic Committee Mahmoud Khosravivafa.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The
project, first mandated in 2020 under the Ministry’s legal framework, aims to
create a data-driven, nationwide blueprint for the optimal use of sports
facilities, equitable resource allocation, and balanced development across all
provinces, including underprivileged regions. After initial delays, work
resumed under the 14th Government, culminating in the project’s completion
after 67 months. Speaking at the event, Minister Donyamali emphasized the shift from
traditional, fragmented management of sports to strategic, evidence-based
planning, noting that “strong sports require a clear roadmap and collective
national effort.” He also outlined upcoming priorities, including preparations
for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, participation in four major
international events, and initiatives for renewable energy and artificial
intelligence in sports facilities. NOC President Khosravivafa called for greater government support ahead of the
Youth Olympic Games and Islamic Solidarity Games, describing spending on sports
as “an investment.” NPC President Ghafour Kargari highlighted the strong
backing for sports from both the Supreme Leader and the government, noting
record achievements by para-athletes in Paris. The ceremony also featured remarks from federation presidents, who stressed the
role of youth as the country’s key assets and reiterated their commitment to
representing Iran with pride on the international stage.
