Coinciding with Natural Resources Week (in line with the goals of Olympism and focusing on the importance of preserving and expanding the green and planting seedlings), the National Arboriculture Day ceremony was held at the National Olympic Academy with the presence of the country's sports officials and partners.
Iran NOC; Tehran: At the
beginning of this ceremony, which is held every year by the Sports and
Environment Commission of the National Olympic Committee and attended by
officials from the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee,
federations, Olympians, and environmental enthusiasts, the Chair of the Sports
and Environment Commission presented a report on the measures taken to
commemorate this day.
On the following, Dr. Mahdi
Alinejad, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, stating that
environmental protection is one of the main components of sustainable
development held: "The issue of tree planting that is being addressed
today is actually correcting past mistakes. Unfortunately, if in the past there
was a balance between tree destruction and tree planting, now this balance has
been disrupted. The Olympic movement has many references and emphases on the
issue of the environment, which has come down to us as a legacy from the past.
We at the National Olympic Committee must also promote the slogan "Be the
Champion of the Environment" and take positive steps to protect the
environment before it is too late." In conclusion, the NOC Secretary-General
compared planting saplings to raising a sports champion whose fruits will be
visible in the future, and expressed hope that everyone, while appreciating
God's blessings, will help promote a culture of environmental protection.
