The United World Wrestling announced the names of three wrestlers in freestyle, Greco-roman and women as the best wrestlers in 2021 in terms of performance on its official website.
Iran NOC; Tehran: According to the United World Wrestling, Mohammad
Reza Geraei, the Olympic and World Gold medalist in the 67 kg, and Amir Hossein
Zare, the Olympic and World Gold medalist in the 125 kg freestyle, had the best
performance among wrestlers from all over the world in 2021. They have won this
award and this shows the leap and progress of Iranian wrestling in international
events.
The United World Wrestling has reflected about Mohammad Reza Garai and
Amir Hossein Zare: "Calling him the “Iceman”, Geraei entered 2021 without
a world or Olympic medal in his record. He won the gold medal at the Tokyo
Olympics and the Norway World Championships in 2021. At the age of 20, Zare
also had a fruitful year, winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and
overcoming prominent wrestlers such as Taha Akgul and Gnu Petriashvili, who bagged
Olympic and world medals”.
However, the United World Union has not given a title to Amir Hossein
Zare, but this wrestler has chosen the title of Heavyweight King for himself.
