After 17 days of competitions in 17 disciplines; the Iranian delegation was back home by earning 3 gold,2silver and 2 bronze and a total of 7 medals sparkling in the region and among the Islamic countries.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The Tokyo2020 Olympic Games has been interpreted
as a successful edition of Olympics for the Iranian delegation in reaching to 2
more medal-winning disciplines; say, Karate, in an Olympic debut and Shooting
as a first in the sport’s history. the medal tally reflects that Iran has moved
to 6 disciplines for winning medals in the Olympic Games. The Iranian
delegation was sent to Tokyo2020 with 133 athletes including athletes, coaches
and technical staff and managed to bag medals in Freestyle and Greco-Roman
Wrestling, Karate, Shooting, and Weightlifting. The first ever re-scheduled Tokyo2020
Olympic Games was held without spectators amid coronavirus pandemic; however,
with the efforts of the Organizing Committee and the IOC and all sport
stakeholders; safe and sound.
It is highlighted that Islamic Rep. of Iran has participated in 17
editions of Olympic Games as of London 1948 onwards winning 24 gold out of the
total 75 medals. Tokyo2020 Olympic Games is considered as the second most
successful Games for the Iranian delegation.
